CFTC FX speculators positioning: USD longs return to highest levels – Rabobank

FXStreet (Barcelona) - The Rabobank Team shares the IMM net speculators’ positioning data as at 30th December, 2014, while noting that USD long positions bounced higher to their highest levels while EUR shorts increase substantially.

Key Quotes

“Long USD positions bounced higher in the latter half of December returning to their highest levels since late October.“

“Net EUR shorts increased substantially, recovering from the early December reversal. Political concerns stemming from Greece appear to be adding to the bearish tone in the EUR which has been invoked by dovish comments from ECB President Draghi.”

“Net JPY shorts increased again in late December as stock markets rallied. However, the early January equity market selloff suggests safe haven demand could reverse this trend.”

“Having lost ground in early December, net GBP shorts are on the rise again following a bout of weaker than expected UK economic data.”

“Having dropped back in early December, AUD net shorts have risen again. Although CAD shorts fell moderately in mid-December, the move proved temporary. MXN net shorts were extended further once more.”

“CHF net shorts were consolidative. The previous week shorts increased significantly after the previous week’s SNB policy meeting inspired dip”

AUD/NZD falls below 1.05
